Chapter Five

Samantha and Callum entered the reception area of the Rutledge Wolf Foundation. In the darkness, with the faint light from the street filtering in through the window, the place had an empty, eerie feel to it.

“Let’s start with my office,” Callum offered as he started to walk towards his area. “After that, if we’re not completely exhausted, we can see if Bella or Alexander have any files that we should check through as well.”

Samantha followed him through a door into a small office. Two desks sat on either side. A largely framed photo of Bella and Alexander hugging on a sunny day in the park graced one desk, upon which numerous neatly aligned piles of paper were stacked. The other desk was bare except for a pad of paper and a few scattered pens.

Callum must share his office with Bella, Samantha mused. She figured anything underhanded Callum could have possibly done must have occurred out in Australia. With the shared, open plan office, there was no way he could have had privacy to organize anything here without Bella or any of the other staff swiftly made aware of it. Callum had helped transport those cubs directly from Australia. He hadn’t moved into his apartment and all his gear had still been shipping over when the event had taken place.

Before she could head over to the filing cabinet, she felt Callum standing next to her, positively radiating heat. She felt her breath hitch as she turned to face him and saw the hunger in his face. He pressed her against the back of the door, closing it as he ruthlessly took her mouth with his.
